Part 2 – Dating as a Solo Parent 💕 In this editio Part 2 – Dating as a Solo Parent 💕
In this edition of Ask The Coach, Reema @choicemomcoach and Mel @the_stork_and_i continue the conversation about dating as a solo parent. Sharing their experiences, perspectives and thoughts on navigating relationships when you’re raising a child on your own.
Missed Part 1? Go back and watch that one first!
And Part 3 will be live next Friday 🩷
I think we spend a LOT of time talking about what I think we spend a LOT of time talking about what children might miss out on by being raised in a solo parent family.
The second parent they won’t have.
The things that might be harder.
The questions we worry they might ask.
And those concerns are real. There are challenges to being raised in any family structure, including ours.
But sometimes I think we forget to talk about what children can gain from growing up in a solo parent family too.
For me, that’s been one of the biggest learnings of living this life for the last 8 years.
Watching my daughter grow up and thrive, and recognising that some of those things aren’t happening despite our family structure, they’re happening because of it.
None of this means solo parent families are better.
It isn’t a competition.
And I’d never want to dismiss the things that can be difficult for our children too.
But I also don’t want us to constantly view solo parenthood through the lens of what children are missing.
Because there can be so much they’re gaining too. ❤️
Make sure you save this post for those days when you’re having a wobble and send it to the women in your life who need a reminder 🩷
What else would you add to the list?
I’ll be honest, I started Thriving Solo for the gr I’ll be honest, I started Thriving Solo for the grown ups.
The parents. The mums. The people considering solo parenthood.
To connect us. To provide resources. Community. Connection.
What I underestimated was the benefits for our children.
Watching them interact with each other. Make friends. See their family structure reflected in others. Have someone to talk to who gets their situation. Seeing their relationships with the other mums develop.
And perhaps most importantly, seeing them grow up knowing that their family isn’t unusual here.
Because sometimes, at school or elsewhere, they might feel like their family is different.
Here, it’s just one of many.
I wanted a place where we, as parents, could feel less alone.
What I’ve realised is that we’ve created somewhere our children can feel part of something bigger too.
A community where they don’t have to explain their family.
Where they can simply be kids.
Where they can grow up surrounded by other children who understand.
That’s one of the things I’m most proud of about Thriving Solo.
It’s not just a community for solo parents.
It’s a community our children get to be part of too. ❤️
